  CATAPULT

A catapult is a device used to throw or hurl a projectile to a great distance without the aid of explosive devices—particularly various types of ancient and medieval human powered vehicles. Deriving an idea from this we are planning to organize an event which can test the participants on the grounds of their perception and application of various aspects of engineering. The sole purpose of event is to develop an appropriate mechanism to accomplish a particular task in a three dimensional space. The goal of the mechanism can be such as to target a ball into a small circular hole with the regions of concentric circles around it. The circular central hole corresponds to the “BULL’S EYE” position in case of darts. The circular portions can be given points depending on its distance from centre.

The event requires the knowledge of the participant to draw a mechanism out of limited number of links and target it nearest to the goal position. The teams must abide by all the rules stated below:

Event Rules:

  •          Number of members in a team is limited to four or less.
  •          The position for targeting the goal will also be fixed and predetermined.
  •          The mechanism should be pre-prepared, self made before the event instead of a similar existing in market.
  •          Each team will be given two trials and best of the two will be considered for final tabulation of results.
  •          The winner will be decided by the nearest position of the goal.
